Site of a Revolutionary War battle that ended in victory for the colonies, Cowpens National Battlefield's 845 acres now contain scenic trails and historic exhibits. Start at the visitor center, where real artifacts from the Revolutionary War, replica items and modern activities for children provide insight into the significance of this battle and the general course of the war it was a part of. Afterwards, head on the 3.8-mile driving tour around the battlefield or take the 1.3-mile footpath; both feature historical exhibits along the way. During the summer there are numerous demonstrations and events that really bring the battlefield to life, check the park website for more information on these events. The battlefield is very close to the North Carolina state border, set about 12 miles northwest of Gaffney near the small town of Chesnee.
